Comments

Occurs throughout the coast but most common in temperate Cape waters. Stock probably sound; an important component of rock and surf catch from Southwest Coast to Ciskei; a by-catch in False Bay seine nets (Ref. 4332). Popular catch of shore and skiboat anglers, usually released. Angling record 21.5 kg (Ref. 12484). Spearfishing of this species is illegal in Natal (Ref. 12484). Also Ref. 3965, 33390.
